  Ground handling companies issue issue to airlines over debts Association of Ground Handling Companies of Nigeria (AGHAN) has directed its members to issue seven-day notices of suspension of ground handling services to two major domestic airlines over prolonged outstanding debts that collectively account for more than 70 per cent of the total indebtedness owed to its member companies. The directive followed an executive meeting of the Association held on Friday, September 4, 2026, where members raised serious concerns over the financial pressure created by unpaid bills from some domestic airline clients. Under the terms of the notices, the two affected airlines are required to pay 75 per cent of their outstanding indebtedness within seven days, while the remaining 25 per cent is expected to be settled through a mutually agreed structured repayment arrangement to be completed within 90 days.   Why airlines fail in Nigeria, by expert An aviation professional and former air traffic controller, Dr. Sylvester Omoigberale, has identified poor management, inadequate professional training and high operating charges as major factors responsible for the failure of several airlines in Nigeria. Omoigberale, who worked as an air traffic controller in the 1990s, said the Nigerian aviation industry has changed significantly over the years, with major improvements in technology, airline operations, personnel remuneration and regulatory oversight. However, he argued that the progress has not eliminated some of the fundamental challenges confronting airline operators, particularly the high cost of running an airline and the shortage of properly trained aviation professionals.  ATSSSAN Commends FG, as Ex-Nig Airways Workers Receive Severance Benefits  The National president of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) Comrade John Ogbe has praised president Bola Tinubu for the commencement of last payments to former workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways  Spea in an interview, Comrade Ogbe said the payments were being made in batches and expressed confidence that the process would be completed shortly.  Air Peace Apologises for Recent Flight Disruptions The Management of Air Peace has  apologized  to passengers who have been affected by the delays and cancellations experienced across some of its  operations in recent days.  In a statement by its Chief Operating Officer, Mrs Oluwatoyin Olajide, the airline  said it   understands  the frustration and inconvenience these delays have caused and deeply regret the disruptions to  passengers'  travel plans. The disruptions , she said  resulted  from a combination of unforeseen circumstances, including an inadvertent false fire alarm that grounded one of its aircraft and adverse weather conditions that resulted in diversions, delays and, in some cases, outright cancellations, a bird strike that grounded another aircraft for days, technical issues requiring necessary mandatory checks and maintenance, as well as a delay in the availability of aviation fuel in some cases.
