ATSSSAN threatens disruption of flights nationwide if union leaders are held by police
Members of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) says, the union will not guarantee the continuation of air operations in all airports across the country should their leaders be detained by the Nigerian Police in Abuja Wednesday
This followed an invitation by the Inspector General of Police following a petition written by the management of Air Peace
In a letter titled 'IMPORTANT NOTICE TO GENERAL PUBLIC
NOTIFICATION OF INVITATION BY THE NIGERIA POLICE HEADQUARTERS: ACT OF RECKLESS INTIMIDATION BY THE AIR PEACE NIGERIA LTD dated September 1, 2026 signed by ATSSSAN Secretary General Comrade Fracess Akinjole, reads'
"We are compelled to inform all that the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) has received an invitation from the Nigeria Police Headquarters, Abuja, pursuant to complaints lodged by the Air Peace airlines in respect of the lawful picketing that was carried out by unions in the aviation sector on 11th August 2026"
"However, if we are held by the Police for time longer than necessary, we may no longer be able to guarantee continuation of air operations in the various airports across the country immediately" .
The union said allegations against the union were Case of Conspiracy; threatening violence; inciting disturbance of public peace, assault occasioning harm and Conduct likely to cause Breach of Peace.
ATSSSAN said they have decided to honour the invitation together with a sizable number of officers and members, principally in order to enable them put the occurrence in the correct perspective and to dare the intimidation by the ‘Air Peace’.
