Airports around the world continue to face an evolving range of security threats and Nigerian airports are not in any way insulated. Unauthorised access, touting, passenger misconduct, theft, extortion, vandalism, fraudulent activities, and other illicit practices remain persistent challenges capable of undermining safety, damaging public confidence and weakening the integrity of aviation operations in our airports.  These concerns have become the focus of a renewed campaign under the leadership of the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, whose administration has intensified efforts to restore discipline, strengthen security, and foster a culture of shared responsibility across the nation's airports.Since assuming office, Kuku has consistently emphasised that modern airports must be secure, orderly and passenger centred. She also issued a strong warning against patronising touts, stressing that travellers should engage only with authorised airport personnel and accredited service providers, as eliminating touting remains a critical component of FAAN's broader campaign to curb illicit activities and safeguard the integrity of airport operations.Rather than relying solely on reactive measures, FAAN has adopted a proactive approach that focuses on deterrence, accountability and operational efficiency. Security personnel are being equipped with better tools, operational procedures are being strengthened, and internal oversight mechanisms are receiving renewed attention.The administration has also embraced wearable technology to enhance transparency and professionalism in frontline operations. The planned deployment of body-worn cameras for Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel is expected to improve accountability, provide objective records of interactions with passengers, discourage misconduct and strengthen public confidence in airport security operations.Airport security is a multi-agency responsibility. FAAN's renewed strategy therefore places considerable emphasis on collaboration among security agencies operating within airport environments.   Closer coordination among Aviation Security personnel, law enforcement agencies, intelligence services and other relevant stakeholders has improved information sharing and strengthened operational responses.While robust enforcement remains indispensable in combating illicit activities, FAAN recognises that lasting airport safety cannot be achieved through enforcement alone.
