*Miss Edo 2026 Pledges Joint War on Drug Abuse*
'Make Your Crown A Voice for Drug Abuse Prevention', NDLEA Tells Beauty Queen.
The State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, Mitchell Ofoyeju, PhD, on Wednesday received the newly crowned Miss Edo 2026, Bossey Vivian, at the command headquarters in Benin City as she seeks collaboration for her advocacy campaign against drug abuse.
The courtesy visit, according to Commander Mitchell, is aimed at leveraging Miss Edo’s platform and statewide goodwill to intensify drug prevention education among youths, students, and communities across the 18 LGAs of Edo State.
Welcoming the beauty queen and her entourage, Dr. Ofoyeju congratulated her on her emergence and described her reign as a strategic opportunity to win the war against substance abuse from the grassroots.
“Make your crown a voice for drug abuse prevention. We have seized and destroyed tonnes of drugs, but enforcement alone cannot solve this problem. We need influencers like you to take the message of ‘Say No to Drugs’ to schools, motor parks, markets, and social media where the youths are largely concentrated,” Mitchell stated.
The State Commander commended Miss Edo 2026 for choosing drug abuse prevention and girl-child education as part of her pet projects, noting that both issues are directly linked. He disclosed that NDLEA Edo Command needs champions like the pageant in addressing the drug scourge because prevention remains the most cost-effective strategy.
“We will provide you with resource persons, enlightenment materials and technical support. Our officers will join you on outreaches, school campaigns, and community sensitisation. Together, we can break the chain of drug abuse before it escalates,” Ofoyeju added.
Miss Edo 2026 Bossey Vivian thanked the commander for the warm reception and expressed readiness to partner with NDLEA to reduce drug abuse among Edo youths.
“My emergence as Miss Edo 2026 is not just about beauty. It is a call to service; I have seen how drug abuse destroys dreams, ruins education, and turns promising young people into a shadow of themselves. Through my pet project, ‘Educate and Liberate’, I will work with NDLEA to take advocacy to secondary schools, correctional homes, and rural communities," she pledged.
She revealed plans to organise a statewide ‘Say No to Drugs’ campus tour, mentorship sessions for girls, and social media campaigns in line with the 2026 UN priorities, which include prevention, treatment and recovery for all.
“Edo youths are talented and resilient. If we give them the right information early, they will make better choices. I am here to offer my voice, my time, and my platform for that cause,” she added.
The visit ended with a tour of the command’s counselling unit, where Miss Edo 2026 interacted with some persons undergoing rehabilitation. Senior officers of the command were present at the meeting.
