CSR: SAHCO Donates science laboratories at Mafoluku Grammar School

Skyway Aviation Handling company (SAHCO), over the weekend unveiled new science laboratories donated to the science students of Mafoluku Grammar School Oshodi, under it's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative

This initiative aimed at strengthening science education and fostering innovation among students.

The project, which involves the upgrading of laboratories in Chemistry, Physics, Home Economics and Agricultural Science, is designed to provide students with access to modern tools and a more conducive environment for practical learning.

The chairman was represented at the event by his Special Assistant, Mr Hamid Adebowale.

Afolabi underscored the corporate commitment of the company to foster innovation and practical learning within the Nigerian public school system.

He described the donation as a strategic investment in the nation’s future.

Afolabi noted that Nigeria’s aspirations to become a global technological and industrial powerhouse depended heavily on the resources devoted to STEM education at the secondary level.

He emphasized that science education, in particular, plays a critical role in shaping young minds by encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

“Science education equips young minds with the ability to question, to explore, and to solve real-world problems,”

He stressed that meaningful learning requires “access to modern tools, practical experiences, and an environment that inspires curiosity and discovery.”

The company emphasised that the laboratories are not merely physical upgrades but innovation hubs where students can experiment, build ideas, and develop lifelong skills.

The Chemistry lab will enable hands-on exploration of matter, while the Physics lab will help students understand the laws governing the universe.

The Home Economics lab is designed to impart practical life and entrepreneurial skills, and the Agricultural Science lab will expose students to modern farming techniques vital for food security and economic growth.

According to him, the intervention goes beyond providing classroom theory, as it seeks to expose students to hands-on experience through the use of modern equipment and improved learning spaces.

Adebowale also added that the laboratories are not just facilities for storing equipment, but spaces where students can experiment, innovate, and develop lifelong skills essential for personal and professional growth.

The Managing Director of SACHO, Mrs Adenike Aboderin, described education as the bedrock of any society.

Aboderin said the company was starting with Mafoluku Grammar School, with the hope of partnering more schools around the airport community.

“We have just started. We will do more with them and we are rolling out different programmes in the educational space.

“We are also the company that has number one in SIWES in employment of science students in Nigeria and also, we want to do more so that people have practical experience and a passion,” she said

Also speaking at the event the Principal of the school, Mrs Kehinde Obidakin commended SAHCO for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. She noted that the upgraded laboratories would significantly enhance students’ performance, especially in external examinations such as WAEC, while also preparing them for future careers in science and technology.
