Munich Airport enlists Nigerian partner to Airport Business Executive Programme
Munich Airport International (MAI), a 100% subsidiary of Munich Airport (Flughafen München GmbH – FMG) located in Bavaria, Germany, is developing plans to launch a comprehensive Africa airport manager development program that includes a workshop, training, and an airport manager peer-review and benchmarking forum modelled after the Nigeria Airport Business Summit.
This program aims to provide airport managers with access to the wealth of European experience in airport development and management, helping African airports scale up to a global presence, meet the region's yearning for connectivity, and dream of the Single Sky initiative.
End of January 2026, Nigerian partners from Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency and the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, coordinated by FCI International Ltd (FCI), visited Munich Airport International (MAI) for a focused and inspiring exchange on BVLOS operations, regulatory frameworks and future use cases.
HmmThe visit brought together experts from Germany and Nigeria to align on shared objectives and explore pathways for safe and scalable unmanned aviation systems.
This collaboration builds on more than five years of similar joint initiatives involving topics such as Airside Management, Terminal Operations, Facility and Maintenance Management and Masterplanning for Airports with delegates from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
According to the proponent of this initiative, Mr. Fortune Idu, the Managing Director of FCI International, who is MAIs partner in Nigeria, African airports and the stakeholders, deserve access to global business corridors in a practical way, based on information exchange and knowledge of how this information is used in the global business terrain.
The MAI team understands this dynamic very well. Moreover, our membership in ACI Africa as World Business Partner (WBP) is a strong link in creating this synergy for the African continent.
We are preparing and developing further programs, which are foreseen to commence later this year, at Munich Airport in Germany. The programs will feature subjects related to developing the airport business and help participants to develop the knowledge to transform airport management into a creative, lucrative, and sustainable venture.
Several joint Africa-region economic initiatives, from the African Continental Free Trade to a single airspace initiative, and the uncertainty around global travel protocols requires that African airports prepare for a future of increased utilisation and good business prospects. Munich airport has been supporting developing countries initiatives for many years.
This collaboration is one of a kind that provides a win-win to the region. MAI has been active in various regions around the world for more than 30 years, advising airports and stakeholders, enhancing airport operations, and providing training initiatives based on modern airport standards.
