Anthony Joshua: Ogun  State Govt cautions against speculation, premature probe




The Ogun State Government has asked the public to refrain from speculation or premature conclusions until investigations are complete and the relevant authorities release official findings regarding a road accident involving former world heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua on Monday.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, said the call for restraints was a result of reports circulating in the media regarding a road traffic incident at ‘ Danco area’ along the Lagos–Sagamu Expressway on Monday, 29th Dec 2025.

He extended his Ministry’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, sympathized with all persons affected by the tragic incident, and commended the swift action of the emergency services in response.

He disclosed that investigations into the circumstances and probable causes of the incident are ongoing, adding that information reported in the media at this time largely reflects preliminary eyewitness accounts, which remain interim and subject to verification.

The purpose of the ongoing investigation, according to him, is not only to determine the immediate and underlying causes of the incident, but also to enable the government to identify appropriate preventive measures and further strengthen existing road safety interventions, with a view to preventing a recurrence of similar incidents along strategic transportation corridors within Ogun State.

Pending the outcome of investigations, Dairo urged drivers to strictly observe prescribed speed limits, refrain from reckless driving, and comply fully with all traffic rules and regulations.

Parking, stopping, or trading on highways and expressways, he noted, are prohibited, except at duly designated facilities.

Vehicle owners and operators, he further stated, must ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, properly registered, and subjected to routine inspection.

Other advice include that drivers must hold valid licences and appropriate certification for the class of vehicle they operate.


 He noted that the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation remains resolutely committed to a comprehensive and coordinated road safety framework, which includes the certification, regulation, and continuous monitoring of drivers and vehicles operating within the State; active traffic control, patrols, and enforcement by the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in conjunction with Federal authorities; prompt identification and remediation of road defects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.


Consequently, the Ogun State government has taken measures to remove articulated trucks from the highway by redeveloping the Ogere trailer parks in partnership with the Federal Government.


Other measures include developing off-highway bus parks at Mowe and Ibafo, and constructing an interchange along the Lagos–Sagamu Expressway, to enhance passenger safety and traffic efficiency.


The state is also to strengthen the integrated transport infrastructure to better separate long-haul freight operations from local and commuter traffic.
