The move was strategic and the idea was to alert the international community of our plans to set up a national carrier this December, and to also get investors as the federal government will only contribute 5% while sourcing investors to bear the remaining 95%. Charity they say begins at home and while the idea of attracting both foreign and local investors is very commendable, considering our present economic situation; it’s very important for the Federal government to look inwards and do a lot of image laundering for Nigeria’s aviation industry, since we have become a laughing stock in the comity of nations with the myriad of negative stories they hear and read on a daily basis. With an estimated 600 licensed pilots and engineers out of the cockpit, experts say the coming of a new national carrier and other interventions will resolve the challenge, KELVIN OSA OKUNBOR, reports. High rate of unemployment among  licensed  aircraft pilots and engineers  is posing serious headache for operators, players and regulators in the  Nigerian aviation sector. Efforts by government to legislate a policy forcing foreign carriers to engage Nigeria pilots since 2014 has not yielded the right results. Popular Nollywood star, Jim Iyke arrested, released  at Lagos Airport Mr. Jim Iyke, the Nollywood actor was yesterday arrested by the Nigerian police, at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos Command for slapping a security staff of Dana Air, simply identified as Suleiman. It was learnt  that Iyke who had arrived late for the flight out of Lagos to Abuja was reluctant to be screened by the security personnel of the airline, but the insistence of one triggered his  aggression. Our correspondent gathered that he was supposed to have  departed  Lagos with a 12:15pm flight, but he came few minutes after 12:00. In local flights, a traveler is expected to arrive the airport and commence the check-in processes at least an hour to the flight. It was learnt that Iyke in the course of the aggression damaged some facilities at the terminal, which led to the airline inviting the police to take charge of the unpalatable situation. NCAT introduces latest flight training courses

NCAT introduces latest flight training courses The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria has introduced new flight training courses. The  management  of the College disclosed this on Tuesday. The College said it has introduced  four flight related courses,  which it listed to include : Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL);  Multi Crew Course (MCC); Jet Orientation Course (JOC) and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) English Proficiency Test. The College  said while the  ATPL course, would require  takes a 10 weeks duration  for online students, it would require 10 days for regular students to complete  the programme.   The College said there would be provision of a week's  revision  for students undergoing the  ATPL, course.
